Position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow (fixed-term, 1.8.2014– 31.7.2019) in business administration, accounting and finance

opens the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow (fixed-term) in business administration, accounting and finance.

The post is positioned in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Turku School of Economics.

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Turku School of Economics, Department of Accounting and Finance. Term of employment is fixed-term (1.8.2014– 31.7.2019).

The duties of the postdoctoral researcher include conducting, leading and managing scientific research. In addition, work assignments of the postdoctoral researcher also include teaching in the field of accounting and finance and administrative duties. An appropriate doctoral degree and the ability to provide high-level research-based teaching are required of person selected for the post of postdoctoral research fellow.

Qualification requirements for the position are laid down in the regulations of the University of Turku, Rules of Procedure. The requirements for a postdoctoral research fellow position include a doctoral degree, scientific competence and teaching skills in the field in question. In addition, applicant ́s publications in journals that have the Publication Forum classification (http://www.tsv.fi/julkaisufoorumi/english.html?lang=en) and the suitability of the research topic in relation to the research profile and expertise of the subject will be taken into consideration. In addition, teaching needs and their characteristics will be taken into account.

The salary will be based on levels 5−6 of the demands level chart for teaching and research staff in the salary system applied at Finnish universities, according to which the base salary for the position is EUR 2820,64–3293,22 per month. In addition, a performance-based salary component of up to 46,3% will be paid.

There is a trial period of four months.

Professor (Fixed-TERM) IN business administration, Accounting

 

The post of a professor (fixed-term) in business administration, accounting is positioned in the Department of Accounting and Finance at the Turku School of Economics. We welcome applications from scholars of high-quality in all areas of accounting research (financial accounting, management accounting and auditing). However, linkage to one of the areas of special expertise of the Turku School of Economics, management accounting, will be considered as an advantage to the applicant.

 

The employment contract will be fixed-term from 1 August 2013 until 31 July 2017. There is a trial period of four months.

 

The duties of the professor include conducting and supervising scientific research, teaching, staying up-to-date with the current scientific developments in the field, and participating in societal interaction and international scientific cooperation in the field.

 

The requirements for a professor position include a doctoral degree, high-level scientific competence, experience of leading and managing scientific research, experience of international cooperation in the research field, as well as ability to provide high-level research-based education and supervise final theses.

 

The salary is determined in accordance with the university salary system for teaching and research personnel. For professors the salary is at levels 8–10 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is between 4543–5796 euros per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid.  The personal work performance component is a maximum of 46.3 % of the task specific salary component. During the employment period salary will be revised on performance basis. Employees also benefit from the social security benefits of Finland and further, occupational health services offered by the employer.

6th Workshop on Auditing and Financial Accounting Research

6th Workshop on Auditing and Financial Accounting Research

University of Vaasa on October 4–5, 2012

 

PhD students and others interested in auditing and financial accounting research are very welcome to the AFAR workshop in Vaasa! The first AFAR workshop was held in Vaasa year 2002, so now is the 10 year anniversary event. As before, the goal is to gather PhD students and others interested in the area, to make contacts and to discuss our research papers.

The topic scope is intended to be broad and includes research about all fields of financial accounting and auditing research. The AFAR workshop is open to doctoral students as well as more established researchers. PhD students can submit a paper either to a work-in-progress (WiP) session or to a working paper session (WP). Papers presented at the WiP sessions can be research plans as well as papers with preliminary results. Papers submitted to WP sessions should be more developed papers. Post doctoral researchers can only submit papers to WP sessions.

The deadline for submission of an abstract is August 15th and the deadline for registration and submission of full papers is September 1st. Abstracts and papers should be sent as an e-mail attachment to anu.airaksinen(at)student.uwasa.fi (preferably in pdf format). All working papers accepted for presentation will be published in AFAR workshop conference proceedings. Persons not planning to present are also welcome to participate. Experienced researchers may be asked to act as a discussant.

The best working paper (WP) presented at the workshop written by a doctoral candidate will be awarded. In celebration of the tenth anniversary event, we have raised the prize to 700 EUR.

The AFAR workshop keynote speakers will be Professor Marco Trombetta and Professor Marleen Willekens.

Trombetta is professor of accounting and management control at Instituto de Empresa Business School, Madrid. His main research area is financial accounting but he has also done auditing related research. Professor Trombetta is the vice dean of research at IE Business School, a member of Ph.D Committees. He has also been at the Assistant Editor of the European Accounting Review, the official journal of the European Accounting Association, and is currently at the Editorial Board of the journal. He will give a speech about publishing in international journals.

Willekens is professor of financial accounting and auditing at KU Leuven. Professor Willekens conducts mainly research in auditing, covering topics such as audit pricing, the quality of external auditing, business risk auditing, auditor regulation and liability, and earnings management. Professor Willekens has been the organizer of the EARNet PhD workshops for several years. She will give a speech about research opportunities in auditing.

The AFAR workshop will be held at the University of Vaasa on October 4-5, 2012. The registration fee is 100 EUR (covers lunches, coffee breaks and dinner on Thursday evening). Participants are expected to cover their own traveling and accommodation expenses.

Workshop on Auditing and Financial Accounting Research

Call for papers: Workshop on Auditing and Financial Accounting Research

University of Vaasa on February 11-12, 2010

PhD students and others interested in auditing and financial accounting research are very welcome again to the AFAR workshop in Vaasa! The goal is to gather PhD students and others interested in the area, to make contacts and to discuss our research papers. The workshop is supported by the projects of Academy of Finland (Grant No 126630) and Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation (Project Nr. 40101/08).

The topic scope is intended to be broad and includes research about all fields of financial accounting and auditing research. The workshop is open to doctoral students as well as more established researchers. PhD students are particularly encouraged to submit preliminary drafts and work in process. All accepted papers will be published in workshop proceedings.

The best student paper presented at the workshop written by a doctoral candidate will be awarded a prize of 500 EUR.

Special issues 2010 are “Success within legal reorganizations: Considerations for entry, process and emergency” and “Measuring solvency”. The best papers dealing with the issues will be published in World Journal of Financial Management (WJFM), when fulfilling the publishing criteria, and awarded a prize of 2000 EUR.

The deadline for submission of an abstract is December 15th and the deadline for registration and submission of full papers is January 20th. Abstracts and papers should be sent as an e-mail attachment to teija.laitinen@uwasa.fi (preferably in pdf format). All papers accepted for presentation will be commented on by a discussant. Persons not planning to present are also welcome to participate. Experienced researchers are asked to be prepared to act as a discussant.

The workshop will be visited by Professor Aasmund Eilifsen from the Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law in Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration. His research interests are mainly on auditing area and he has been publishing in national and international journals including Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, European Accounting Review, International Journal of Auditing, and European Journal of Operational Research.

The workshop will be held at the University of Vaasa on February 11-12, 2010. The registration fee is 75 EUR (covers lunches and dinner on Thursday evening). Participants are expected to cover their own traveling and accommodation expenses.

Doctorial Colloquium

The first Nordic doctorial colloquium in accounting and auditing will be held September, 26 2008 at Örebro University.

Doctoral students are invited to present their research projects at the seminarar where feedback will be provided by fellow students and senior researchers. “We want to give doctoral candidates in accounting this opportunity to present their projects at an intense seminar with qualified participants. The theme of the colloquium is reflection and inspiration and the colloquium is intended as a stepping stone for future research.”
